I’m a Senior Systems Administrator for an Army and Department of Defense Contractor company based out of Round Rock, TX called KITS Inc. Mostly working with Linux, Oracle, Websphere and Open Source applications.
Career Life:
My technical experience started with technical support and helpdesk roles, primarily with application support, installation and troubleshooting.
My role as a contractor with Raytheon expanded my skills into Unix/Linux and mainframes. There I gained experienced that allowed me to support clients with SQL and basic Database fundamentals. From the knowledge and experience I gained, I then began working in IT Operations team as a Linux/Unix System Administrator where I picked up networking, security and backup technologies at an Enterprise level.
I have since been a member of IT and Operation teams in the role of a System Administrator, mostly dealing with Linux, Oracle and MySQL databases on both small and large scale environments. I have been the primary Backup and Disaster Recovery expert in my roles for the past 4 years.
Personal Life:
I am a father and husband, with a second child on the way. I try to spend all my free time playing with the kid who turned two in November of 2007. Babies change your life but are well worth it in the long run to watch grow, learn and so on.
I also like to paint and draw when I find the time. I play some guitar as well and wouldn’t mind learning to play piano, hopefully one day. Although I don’t really watch many sports, I do follow the Dallas Mavericks and you can read my Mavericks Blog if you are also a fan. I also try to read when I find the time but usually end up falling asleep or staring blankly at a wall thinking about something else.
Most of my free time currently is working on my new house I just purchased this October. I love doing projects that involve using my hands, designing and building things. Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling and along with it wearing my ass out, it still gives an overwhelming pleasure and relaxation doing such things without paying someone else to do them.
I am an atheist. There is no God(s) in my world or life and I’m quite happy with that. I keep good moral values and lead a life without the help of a book.
